One Story - Four Perspectives
– Sermon, May 25, 2013
Within the boundaries of God’s laws and life as He designed it, there are a multitude of choices for us to make – from the color of the shirt we wear to what we enjoy in our salad to the type of music we enjoy and the kind of vehicle we drive. In addition, each of us views life from our unique perspective. What we see may be true but incomplete. There are other events and elements, feelings and emotions, questions and issues that we simply overlook or don’t deem to be that important. Our “life lens” sees some things but not all things. To illustrate this aspect of our human state, let’s examine the four gospels and their authors. We will find that each of them had a unique perspective on Jesus Christ . . . His life, His mission, His teachings and the events of His 3.5 year ministry. A combination of God’s inspiration and their own unique perspective contributed to their individual gospel accounts and give us as readers a full 360-degree view of Christ, His life and His ministry. Is one better than the others? Is Matthew’s perspective and approach superior to the others? You and I may prefer one over the other, but does that make the others inferior?
